They all seem so kind in the beginning,
Flashes of warmth, laughter, and light.
They show compassion, so easy and fleeting,
But invite them close, and the spark takes flight.
The effort fades, the colors dull,
Replaced by shadows, soft and gray.
A smile and laugh are never enough
To keep the depth from slipping away.
So now I breathe, I meditate,
And ask the One who dwells above
To send a soul, sincere and true,
A heart that’s bound in lasting love.
But it's not enough to make me quit,
There’s strength in faith, my spirit lit.
